Dihann Carroll was the first ever Black Emmy nominee in 1963.

For 51 years, 2 categories have become elusive for Black women, Lead actress in a Comedy Series and Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

So what the hell has taken so long?

Well first off, you have to have a show written that actually STARS a Black woman in order for her to play a LEAD role. Which, needless to say have not been many, if any, since Scandal (also created and written by a Black woman…see how diversity works kids?
